VTT Graduate School
The target of VTT Graduate School is to increase the number of international PhD students and post-doc researchers working at VTT. A collateral goal is to support these researchers in carrying out PhD studies in conjunction with normal project work. Traditionally known for training upcoming talent and developing recent graduates into highly competent R&D scientists, VTT took a step towards a more conscious educational role by establishing the graduate school in late 2009. The target of this initiative is to increase the number of international PhD students working at VTT and to support them in carrying out PhD studies in conjunction with normal project work. As VTT does not provide PhDs, VTT Graduate School works in close collaboration with national graduate schools and universities in general.
PhD students and post-doc researchers participate in high level research work at VTT on selected strategically relevant topics within a highly collaborative project environment. PhD work is done for four consecutive years under professional scientific supervision by highly experienced and competent senior researchers with PhD degrees. Post-doc research projects last for two years. PhD theses are expected to be finalized within the four year period and fulfill high level scientific standards. The open positions are related to applied materials, bio and chemical processes, energy, information and communication technologies, and microtechnologies and electronics.
** The call is closed. The next call will be opened later in 2014.
How are the topics for the forthcoming PhD positions defined?
Topics are hand-picked by using strategic fit, scientific relevance and contract research revenues generated in the field as key criteria. PhD projects are developed as an integral part of VTT’s existing project portfolios.
