Waste to energy
In Finland, more than half of all community waste is dumped to landfills. VTT is involved in Lahti Energia Oy’s power plant project in which waste is used for energy production in a new way.
Energy from fields and forests
VTT develops biomaterial based fuel technologies with the aim to replace fossil fuels. The key focus is on reducing greenhouse gases.
Wind energy production in cold climates
Anti-icing technology enables continuous and safe wind energy production even in harsh winter conditions. VTT has developed a technology for a blade heating system for wind turbine rotor blades. The anti-icing system has been installed in more than 40 wind turbines in Finland and abroad.
