VTT transferring to a Group structure from the beginning of 2010
09.11.2009
VTT is actively reforming its structure and operations to be better able to increase its customers' competitiveness and to help them prosper in domestic and international markets. Set for adoption at the beginning of 2010, VTT's new structure – VTT Group – is formed of the parent organisation and three subsidiaries and several affiliated companies participating in technology transfer. VTT Group will increase the exploitability and impact of VTT's scientific results. The new structure will also improve VTT's ability to produce efficient and flexible services for its customers and partners.
The President of the Republic of Finland has ratified Acts enabling the
transfer to the VTT Group structure. The Acts enter into force on 1 January
2010, on which date the new VTT Group companies, VTT Expert Services Oy and
VTT Ventures Oy, will also begin operations. The operations of the third
company, VTT International Oy, have already been launched.
Parent
organisation VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland, which conducts self-
and jointly funded research on the departmental format as well as paid
research, will continue its operations directly under the Ministry of
Employment and the Economy. VTT will continue to house all of VTT's research
and development operations. The parent organisation will administer the three
fully state-owned companies, also taking responsibility for their ownership
steering.
VTT Expert Services Oy will take over VTT Technical
Research Centre Finland’s expert, testing, certification and approval
services, as well as inspection, analysis and calibration services. VTT
personnel transferring to the company will be those in charge of producing
these services, approximately 250 people, along with the equipment and
agreements pertaining to the operations. The new company model will provide
better conditions than exist at present for developing business operations and
services for customers.
The task of VTT Ventures Oy will be
to administer and develop the spin-off companies born out of VTT’s research.
Parent VTT will continue to be in charge of the management, licensing and
sales of the IPR created in connection with research operations.
VTT
International Oy will implement VTT's internationalisation efforts as well as
manage tasks relating to VTT’s international service points and R&D projects
which demand the participation of legal persons.
