SB11 Helsinki World Sustainable Building Conference

The aim of the World Sustainable Building Conference in Helsinki is to share leading knowledge, and also to find new solutions which can enhance sustainable ways of living and working within built environments.

Keynote lectures include:

Cameron Sinclair, Co-Founder and CEO of Architecture for Humanity
AFH, http://architectureforhumanity.org/, is a nonprofit design services firm that since its creation in 1999 has grown into an international hub for humanitarian design, offering innovative solutions to humanitarian crises in all corners of the globe. Cameron Sinclair and AFH have been awarded many honors over the past decade.

Pekka Haavisto, Former Minister of the Environment and Development
The first Green minister in Europe, Mr. Haavisto is a Finnish politician and a Member of the Parliament. An expert in global issues, he also acts a Special Representative of the Foreign Minister of Finland in African crisis specializing in Sudan and Somalia, and lectures regularly at the University of Helsinki and the NATO School in Oberammergau.

Michael Grätzel, Father of dye-sensitized solar cells
Director of the Laboratory of Photonics and Interfaces, Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne (EPFL), Switzerland, Prof. Grätzel has been awarded the 2010 Millennium Grand Prize Winner for the development of dye-sensitized solar cells, which promise electricity-generating windows and low-cost solar panels and have just made their debut in consumer products.

Bill Bordass, Principal of William Bordass Associates and research and policy adviser to the Usable Building Trust
A scientist with a long experience in the technical and environmental performance of buildings in operation, he is also research and policy adviser to the Usable Buildings Trust and co-author of the Soft Landings Framework, which helps design and building teams to focus their projects more on performance in use.

Alfred Ngowi, Professor, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, University of Botswana
Professor Ngowi has worked for various construction companies in Tanzania, Sweden, and Botswana, and has researched and published extensively on sustainable construction in Botswana and in the region. He is also the reviews editor of the Botswana Journal of Technology, and a co-Chief Editor of the Journal of Construction in Developing Countries.

Raymond J. Cole, Co-Founder of the Green Building Challenge
World-wide known, GBC is an international collaborative effort to benchmark progress in green building performance and environmental assessment. A pioneer in building environmental research and teaching, Prof. Cole heads the Environmental Research Group at the School of Architecture of the University of British Columbia, Canada.
