VTT's proposal for a MEMS-based IR-spectrometer was chosen in Ocean Optics' new innovation program
Jarkko Antila's proposal of a novel MEMS-based IR-spectrometer was evaluated as best in the first phase of the Ocean Optics Blue Ocean Grant call. The aim of Antila's project is to develop a very small IR-spectrometer that can be used in large-scale applications, such as gas analysis in industry.
An impartial jury of experts chose the winners based on the following criteria: changing the world for the better, out-of-the-box thinking, technical merit, and potential commercial viability.
SPIE members awarded first-phase grants of up to $10,000 for the evaluation and development of ideas to the proof-of-concept phase. In the second phase, grants of up to $100,000 grants will target the commercialization of the technology. In addition, next year, grants of up to $10,000 will be awarded for proof-of-concept according to the first phase.
The Blue Ocean Grant call was open to everyone. The number and quality of proposals exceeded all expectations.
Blue Ocean is a program based on open innovation, which is looking for innovative ideas that make the world a better place using optical sensing technology.
