31.10.2012

The European Union has set a target of improving road safety, providing cleaner energy and building an intelligent traffic system. In order to accelerate the development the EU has launched iMobility Challenge project which utilizes ICT-based solutions to improve traffic flow and safety and also to decrease environmental hazards.

The project will support the European Commission’s goals for ITS (Intelligent Transport System) for the period 2011 to 2020 through demonstrations targeted at the public, professionals, and decision-makers. One of the goals is to reduce the number or fatalities across Europe by 30 %.

The two year iMobility Challenge project has a total budget of 1.5 million euros. The project is coordinated by the FIA, the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile. Project members are FIA, ACEA, CLEPA, ERTICO and VTT.
