Responsible for VTT Spearhead programme on ubiquitous computing and smart
spaces, Open Smart Spaces.
Leader of VTT’s strategic research programme Digital World 2006-2008.
Currently, professor Ailisto's research interests include ubiquitous computing and enabling technologies for new user interaction methods, context awareness, and biometrics.
Ailisto's earlier research topics include machine vision, especially CAD based 3D vision, on which he made his PhD thesis.
Authored and co-authored more than 90 journal and conference papers on ubiquitous computing, technology for novel user interaction methods, mobile interaction, biometrics as well as on computer vision and pattern recognition.
