Integrated and proactive management of occupational and patient safety

In the project a concept and a pilot tool for integrated reporting of occupational and patient safety adverse events were developed. Syngergy benefits of this integrated handling improve both the quality and effectiveness of risk management. A guide book for proactive risk management utilizing adverse event reporting has been published in order to help health care organizations to learn from adverse events. (The guide book was written in Finnish but the summary is available in English). The development was based on widely used (in Finland) HaiPro methodology which is used for reporting of patient safety adverse events. Successful integration requires undersanding of similarities and differences between occupational and patient safety. Newest research knowledge especially on human and organizational aspects has been used in the concept and the guide book. The project has been started in the beginning of 2009 and in it ended in February 2010.
