The research and development aims at energy efficient building and district solutions as well as real estate services producing demand-based indoor environment conditions and preventing climate change. The research and development covers the technical systems of buildings (heating, cooling, water and plumbing, ventilation, building automation, safety and security), building physics, energy efficient buildings (low energy buildings, passive houses, zero-energy buildings, energy neutral buildings, plus-energy buildings), eco-efficient community solutions, district solutions utilising distributed energy technology and renewable energy sources, service ability of properties and premises, and the criteria of the experienced indoor environment.
The research focuses on integrated district, building and space solutions providing excellent indoor environment, energy efficiency and life cycle advantage. The research promotes business environments based on new operational practices. In order to support the paradigm shift methodologies, calculation and experimental methods and tools, based on utilisation of information and mobile technologies, are being developed for the analyses during different phases of life cycles of solutions.
The competitiveness of the property business is created by performance characteristics of building services. Environment-conscious and user-driven performance characteristics are the most crucial ones. The demand for integrated district, building and space solutions and supporting services will increase. Long-term client bases, quality issues and service ability will be increasingly emphasised. Procurement and service provision models will be changed as well. New methods will then be required for the management of processes, guaranteed performance and long-term risks.
