We concentrate on wireless network and device core technologies; radio systems and computing platforms. The radio systems research covers architectures, methods, protocols and algorithms for cognitive and co-operative networks, radio access networks and radio links. Correspondingly, the computing platform research covers platform architectures, multicore processors, parallel processing and programming, digital electronics and DSP, telecom and hardware dependent software technologies.
Our technologies and competences are key enablers of communication systems providing cost efficient platforms for smart space applications, Internet of things and cost efficient delivery of entertainment and information to users. Communication systems consist of heterogeneous access networks and cooperating and competing multimode terminals. They include many different types of access technologies – wireless sensor networks, personal area networks (PANs), wireless local area networks (WLANs), wide area mobile communication, broadcast – are each optimised for their particular use scenarios. Communication device implementation technologies provide scalability, flexibility, energy-aware performance, cost efficiency, and design productivity to be applicable for a wide range of products.
An increasing amount of communication and communication devices leads to the need for more efficient use of resources, especially of the energy and the radio spectrum. At the same time there is a need to increase the performance and interoperability of devices and different type of access networks. End users are also looking for simplicity and there is a need to hide the complexity related to service access and use from users. From the implementation point of view the key challenges are to provide enough flexible performance, to speed up product design cycles and to support implementation of green values by minimisation of materials and energy consumption. The integration of cognitive and cooperative networks and radio access architecture and method knowledge with platform implementation technologies will be the key for winning product concepts.
We have about 50 specialists working in state of the art research facilities. Our experience is mostly based on a strong contribution (in)to the research and development of 2nd, 3rd and 4th generation mobile communication systems. The research environment includes most common modelling, simulation and real-time prototyping tools and platforms.
