Printed intelligence technologies extend the functions of printed matter and enabling solutions that fill the gap between traditional paper and printing products and ICT/electronics industry products. Multidisciplinary know-how is combined to allow the cost-effective, high-volume production of new functionalities into everyday products.
Applications and future prospects
Printed intelligence technologies are a basis for disruptive innovations expanding into various existing industries and creating new markets. Emerging applications include disposable sensors, simple "electronic" components and circuits on large areas, large area functional paper-like products, packages, tag and code technologies, printed OLEDs, and OPV.
VTT’s Center for Printed Intelligence (CPI) is the world leading innovation center in the emerging printed intelligence markets. In 2009, VTT researchers are carrying out over 100 person years of projects in this area.
VTT’s facilities include various roll-to-roll fluid printing and coating laboratory and pilot-scale machines. VTT actively seeks paths to develop and commercialise its portfolio of intellectual property.
