Competence

Life cycle management, maintenance and operability services deal with the degradation of materials, structures and components in service. The main target is to extend the limits set on the technical and economic life and operability of the production units of our customers. The demands on safety, efficiency and reduced environmental impact are the driving forces guiding the development of new concepts in power production. This has a direct impact on the performance of materials and plant life management.

Challenges

Global challenges for future energy production technologies aim at minimisation or zero emission of greenhouse gases. The high efficiency of new power plants is also a must today. For the existing aged power plants the main challenge lies in their prolonged economical utilisation. The upkeep of the old plants, the new firing types and difficult fuels together with demands on increased temperatures and pressures for the new plants require R&D on a broad field:

Solutions

To manage the challenges of the new and ageing structures throughout the plant's service life the identification and evaluation of degradation mechanisms, the expected life-span, and the safety, availability and economical viability have to be addressed.
