Fuel cell research and development
VTT has extensive experience in fuel cell research and development as well as applications. The experience extends to execution of tens of projects funded by National and European sources during 1998 - 2009. VTT has participated in six European projects, is involved in the planning process of the Fuel Cell and Hydrogen Joint Technology Initiative and participates in several of IEA Advanced Fuel Cells Implementation Agreement activities. Thus VTT has an extensive national and international network which offers possibilities for large international projects and technology transfer. VTT also has experience in the coordination of large networked European and national projects.
Work done for customers includes construction of computer simulation tools, simulations of processes as well as support for customers in their system development efforts. Examples of these are the following. An Apros based dynamic system model for a very complex fuel cell system was performed. A number of fuel cell system components have been simulated in order to study heat, strength and process properties. Support to customers has been given in their efforts to construct fuel cell systems and applications. Mainly advice has been given in system planning and choice of components.
VTT can offer the services of a development platform including skilled personnel, a vide range of experimental facilities and modelling tools. The main offering is research and development as well as participation in demonstrations, but also testing is possible. The offerings can be displayed in a matrix:
