Today it’s crucial to find unique and proven technologies to speed up the development process. If you require the latest knowledge from a technology point of view, the best available testing equipment and experienced personnel, we at VTT are ready to help you.

Technology concepts and patents in radio systems

Every year, VTT produces numerous radio systems technology concepts and patents. Using our own state-of-the-art testing facilities, we put these concepts to the test in a real network environment. Our customers have the opportunity to licence VTT’s technology for use in product development, and they regularly draw upon our specialists’ knowledge to help with development.

Prototyping environments

Customers can also use VTT’s demonstration and testing facilities to prototype new technology concepts. You can benefit from our state-of-the-art prototyping and research environments:

  • VHDL & FPGA development tools
  • Virtex2-prototyping environment
  • ARM prototyping environment
  • OMAP2430 SDP
  • 4G environment (real time channel emulator + programmable FPGA board)
  • Linux.

Active research to meet challenges of the future

Every year, VTT invests over EUR 10 million into research and realisation of next generation cognitive radio concepts. Cognitive radio research topics include the following items:

  • spectrum sensing
  • cognition
  • adaptation dynamic spectrum
  • management methods for cognitive networks.

We share our findings with our network of major research institutes in Europe, the USA, and Asia. We also play active roles in major regulatory bodies and standardisation organisations (ETSI, IEEE, 3GPP).

We cooperate with ITU-R and support the following standards in our research and prototyping work:

  • IEEE 802.11af
  • IEEE 802.19
  • IEEE 802.22
  • IEEE 1900 (.1-.6)
