Over 100 experienced experts work at VTT’s internationally renowned innovation centre on printed intelligence and unique roll-to-roll processing. VTT delivers great value to customers through its advanced application know-how, partner networks, streamlined processes, first-class facilities, and high quality rolls, among other things. Our ultimate vision is to employ printing processes to create easy-to-use and cost-effective products for sensing, light-emitting surfaces, energy foils, optical films and electrical circuits.
Large-area flexible organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) and organic photovoltaics (OPVs) have important potential applications for new markets in signage, illumination, energy production, wireless systems, and interactive packaging. Our first roll-to-roll printed OLED demonstration took place as early as 2007, and we are strongly focused on scaling up production in roll-to-roll pilots.
VTT’s unique roll-to-roll pilot processing facilities and the expertise of our experienced staff make us a leader in the industry. But in addition to our printing facilities we also offer several supporting processes such as evaporation, nanoimprint lithography, hot embossing, laser etching, and lift-off. All of these processes can be scaled up from the laboratory to pilots, and to production.
Our printed functional products help consumers through intelligent and interactive packaging, or diagnostics. For these applications, we use high-volume technologies such as microfluidics, functionalized paper, or printed indicators.
We print the building blocks for integrated systems, including thin film transistors, memory, power sources, and sensors. While we place emphasis on components, we also specialise in scaling up and integration. Our capabilities therefore allow us to offer various types of printed electronics applications and services.
VTT’s multidisciplinary experience in printing, packaging, plastics, materials and electronics all contribute to our expertise in the production of flexible smart systems and plastic-integrated devices. Integration permits rolls to be converted into other products.
