Performance assessment is an integral part of an approach towards continuous improvements. Performance assessments can be targeted either towards the outputs a company or an organisation is producing or towards the work processes that generate these outputs. From an organisational development point of view, it is more important to target performance assessment towards the work processes, because they determine future performance. In assessing performance it is not enough to consider only measurable predictors of performance, but also intangible assets and organisational culture. Performance assessments should be performed in a systemic framework of the technical systems used and their interactions with human and organisational factors.
