Dr. Theodoor Angelo Josef van der Lee has a PhD from Wageningen University (Department of Phytopatology, 2000). He has also studied five years at the Faculty of Biology at the Catholic University of Nijmegen.
He works as a Senior scientist specializing in molecular phytopathology at Plant Research International, Wageningen where he has worked in different positions since graduation. Previously he has experience from working as a research scientist at the Biotech company Keygene N.V. and working as a Chairman PhD counsel Graduate School Experimental Plant Sciences.
Resistance and resilience of plants to pathogens has been his focus for over 25 years. He has been involved in cloning of plant resistance genes (Mlo, I2), detection, identification and characterization of plant pathogens including population studies of plant pathogens (fungi, oomycetes, viruses, nematodes and bacteria). Exploiting advanced technology including single molecule sequencing, digital phenotyping and satellite images as well as state of the art analysis and data visualization tools, he designs and validates molecular assays, monitors populations and develops apps for governmental agencies, private partners and the general public.
