More work on Service Innovations has been presented in the RESER Conference 2007

A co written paper by Robert van der Have (VTT) and Marja Toivonen (Innovation Management Institute (IMI) at the Helsinki University of Technology) has been presented at the XVIIth International RESER Conference held during 12 - 15 September 2007 in Tampere, Finland.

The paper is titled “The applicability of Schumpeter’s innovation 'cases' in the classification of service innovations”. It examines the pertinence of Joseph Schumpeter’s notions of innovation in the context of services. The authors make use of empirical data collected at IMI as well as preliminary data drawn from the SFINNO database. The analysis further supports the development of the SFINNO database in the area of service innovations.

The conference was organised by the European Research Network on Services and Space, and the keynote speakers were William J. Baumol (USA) and Jean Gadrey (France).

New study on the patenting of innovations was published by VTT

A study which sheds new light on the complex relationship between innovations and patents has been published. Econometric analysis on the SFINNO dataset indicates various characteristics of the innovation, the market, and the innovating firm which have a significant effect on the propensity to patent. The study was conducted by Iiro Mäkinen from ETLA, the Research Institute of the Finnish Economy, and can be freely downloaded from the publications section.
