This research project is jointly funded by Tekes (the Finnish Funding Agency for Technology and Innovation), industrial partners and VTT.

The industrial partners cover a wide value chain of owners (Cities of Helsinki, Espoo, Vantaa and Oulu), material producers (Rudus for hard surfacing and aggregates, Lemminkäinen Infra for hard surfacing and construction, Saint Gobain Weber for drainage materials, Kaitos for geotextile use in subbase, Pipelife for water handling systems, Puutarha Tahvoset for landscaping vegetation), stormwater management designers (FCG, Ramboll) and industrial associations (RT for building products and the Finnish Natural Stone Association).

The project duration is two years (2012-14), with expected demonstration work being done in year three.

There is close cooperation with the Swedish project “Sustainable urban development of solutions for green and grey surfaces” (CBI + 22 partners, Vinnova financing, 2012-14), for wider knowledge gain especially regarding horticulture (green) interaction with permeable surfacing solutions.
