Passport and visa / Letter of Invitation

Citizens of the member countries of the European Union and several other countries do not need a visa for entering Finland. Detailed information about the passport and visa requirements can be found at website of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland.

If you require a letter of invitation from HOTLAB 2018 secretariat, please submit a request for a visa letter invitation to Your name must be listed exactly as it appears on your passport. Any differences between the name on your passport and the name on your invitation letter or other documentation could lead to a delay and/or denial of your visa. 

Note that the visa refusal is no reason for refund of the registration fee.

Local time

The time in Finland is 1 hour ahead and in Sweden the same as the Central European Time (CET).

Local Transportation

The public transportation system of Helsinki includes bus, tram, metro and train services. You can buy tickets on buses and trams and from the ticket machines. A single ticket is valid for one hour inside the Helsinki city. For more information visit:


The currency in Finland is the euro. Major credit cards are widely accepted.


Electricity in Finland and on the ferry is 230 volts. Plugs and sockets are the same as elsewhere in continental Europe.
