The prevailing "one-size-fits-all" approach in healthcare is being replaced by precision medicine as medical decisions, treatments, practices and products are increasingly tailored for individual patients. This will lead into personalized interventions, care paths and therapies. Ultimately, the goal is to reach better health outcomes with lower costs.
The trend towards precision medicine is fostered by the rapid developments in omics (genomics, proteomics and metabolomics) technologies and in our ability to exploit huge data masses with Artificial Intelligence based algorithms. Due to its well curated health and social services data resources, Finland is at pole position in data-driven precision medicine. Efficient exploitation of our resources can only happen if we succeed in building co-operation between stakeholders in Finland and abroad.
PreMed project aims to catalyze such co-operation and to promote the development of a data-driven precision medicine ecosystem in Finland.
